LULLABYE
by Marjorie Evasco

Grand Father, somewhere in the forest
Of your years, the panther and the lion

Stay still but do not sleep. Their ears
Listen with many-veined palms of night

To winds shivering the old branches.
Someone young or fearless again

Is stalking midnight. Once, in my growing
Up stories, you taught me the secret art

Of tracking silence. Panthers and lions
Move with such grace, carrying amber-

Light in their eyes. Grown old now
You and I sit together and listen: wind

In the blood, cold in your limbs. I bless
The beasts by your feet, silent, untamed.

Marjorie Evasco's second collection of poetry called "Ochre Tones: Poems in English and Cebuano" was launched last May at Edith L. Tiempo's new residence on Montemar, Sibulan, Negros Oriental. She calls this volume a "book of changes," following "Dreamweavers" which for her was a "book of origins." In another decade, Evasco hopes to finish a third collection.
